Nissan tires

Bedford Nissan offers a variety of new and used vehicles. No matter which one you choose, when it’s time to shop for Nissan tires, it’s helpful to know the manufacturer-recommended tire size. Here’s how to decipher your tire size.

Where to Find Tire Size

Tire size information is available in the owner’s manual. If you don’t have that handy, check inside the driver’s side door jamb. The tire size is also available on the sidewall of your current tires.

How to Read Tire Size

The tire size is displayed in a series of numbers and letters. It varies by trim, so let’s use the 2024 Nissan Altima S as an example. The tire size for that vehicle is 215/60R16.

Width

The “215” in 215/60R16 denotes the tire width, measured in millimeters from one sidewall to the other. For Nissan Altima tires, this three-digit number signifies a width of 215 millimeters.

Aspect Ratio

The two-digit number following the slash mark, such as “60” in 215/60R16, represents the aspect ratio. This is the ratio of the tire’s cross-section height to its width. In this instance, “60” signifies that the height is 60 percent of the tire’s width.

Radial Designation

The letter “R” in the tire specification indicates a “radial” design, denoting that the tire layers run radially across the tire. Most modern tires feature a radial design.

Wheel Diameter

The final number in the tire size, “16” in 215/60R16, indicates the wheel diameter as measured from one side to the other. For the Nissan Altima, a tire designed for a 16-inch diameter wheel is required.
