The torch has been lit to open the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro and the athletes are prepared to provide some amazing performances. But sport is not the only platform to seek jaw-dropping action this month. In early August, Bedford Nissan was captivated with the futuristic and working prototype vehicles unveiled by its parent company Nissan Motor Co. in Rio at the Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow). These revolutionary sports car designs might be seen on Bedford Nissan’s lot sometime soon.

What type of car will you be driving in the future? Bedford Nissan believes it may be one of these two high-performance electric vehicles like those seen in Rio. Maybe it will be the Nissan BladeGlider, a 100 percent electric sports car, or the Solid Oxide Fuel-Cell (SOFC)-powered prototype. Both vehicles combine Intelligent Mobility, environmentally friendly impact and sports-car driving capabilities.

The two new prototypes include the Nissan BladeGlider, one of the brand’s models in the zero-emission electric vehicles (EVs) and the world’s first Solid Oxide Fuel-Cell (SOFC)-powered vehicle that runs on bio-ethanol electric power.

The Nissan BladeGlider is an agile and efficient EV with a near-silent performance of its electric powertrain and aerodynamic shape. It features an advanced chassis configuration with a narrow front track and wider rear track for optimum aerodynamic efficiency and handling stability.

High-waisted, rear-hinged dihedral doors provide a dramatic entry and exit to the cabin. The open roof of Nissan BladeGlider is reinforced with an integrated roll-over protection structure, providing the exhilaration of an open-topped race car with the safety of a coupe.

The e-Bio Fuel-Cell prototype vehicle runs on 100-percent ethanol to charge a 24kWh battery that enables a cruising range of more than 600km. The powertrain is clean, highly efficient, easy to supply, and it runs on 100-percent ethanol or ethanol-blended water. This new Nissan vehicle’s carbon-neutral emissions are as clean as the atmosphere, which will be the part of natural carbon cycle. Also, the e-Bio Fuel-Cell offers the brisk acceleration and silent driving of an EV, along with its low-running costs, while boasting the driving range of a gasoline-engine vehicle.
