Every year, research company J.D. Power takes on the challenge of determining which vehicle models have the best quality right out of the gate in their Initial Quality Study. In order to do this, they analyze data from thousands of new car owners who report problems in the first few months of ownership. The models with the fewest problems per hundred vehicles (PPH) rank higher overall and in their category. This year, new Nissan cars, trucks, and SUVs impressed. Not only has the Nissan brand improved overall in the rankings, but led by the 2019 Nissan TITAN, several other models ranked high in their respective categories.
The 2019 Nissan TITAN definitely exceeded expectations by tying for seventh place for fewest problems amongst all 257 models in the study and by being the only full-size truck to make it into the overall top ten. The Nissan truck also topped the “Large Light Duty Pickup” category but it wasn’t just the Nissan TITAN that did well in this year’s Initial Quality Study. The 2019 Nissan Maxima topped the “Large Car” segment, while the 2019 Nissan Frontier, 2019 Nissan Versa, 2019 Nissan Murano, and 2019 Nissan Rogue all placed in the top three of their respective categories. These individual model victories were indicative of a larger trend for the Nissan brand, which moved up three full spots in the overall brand rankings, and marked its fourth consecutive year performing better than the industry average in the study.
